Going to discover the countryside that surrounds Noci, its worth visiting the benedictine monastery of Madonna della Scala. The abbey, which stands on a small hill surrounded by a small wood, is made up of a church, which was declared to be a national monument in 1910 and a monastery built in the 20th century and lived in by Benedictine monks. Faithful to their ‘pray and work’ motto, the monks still work on many activities surrounded by the countryside and silence. One of these activities has made the abbey famous throughout Europe: a workshop for the restoration of precious parchments and old books ruined by time and use. Furthermore the monastery is famous for being the centre of music research of the medieval liturgical repertory and of Gregorian Chant. You can visit the monastery every day and also participate in the celebrations.
