At the end of the 15th century, Cisternino had a city wall that enclosed the medieval centre, with a number of defensive towers. There were 10 or perhaps 12 of them and now 2 towers can be seen which are round in shape. These are the torre Amati and the torre Capece also called Torre del Vento (The Wind Tower). Torre Amati can be found in via San Quirico, on the top of the so-called bridge of the Madonnina. From the 17th to the 18th centuries the tower was included into the Amati Palace thus forming a single building. The slender body of the tower sticks out slightly at the top, and is crowned with brackets. Following the perimeter of the city wall towards the south, opposite the New Church you can see the so-called Torre del Vento (Wind Tower), which was then baptized as the Torre Capece because of the palace which it ended up becoming part of.
